Puppy Fever

Sigh. . . I've been on the lookout for a Yorkshire Terrier for at least 6 months now. I've researched breeders, grooming, health issues etc. Last night at 1 in the morning, I got to looking at rescues and found this guy. . . They say he is a Yorkie/Papillon mix - which after researching is called a Yorkillon. I am completely smitten. He's 6 months old - absolutely gorgeous, and hopefully ours soon. . .

Cars Review

Summer has officially landed in my household. On the first day with no school, we went with some friends to see the movie CARS. First off, I should say that I am very conservative and protective of my kids. I want to preserve their innocence and allow them to have a childhood - full of childhood thoughts - not wishings of being an adult.

Cars was absolutely enjoyable. The storyline is - a little rookie car named Lightning is in a major race to win the Piston Cup. He and two other cars are tied so they have a tie-breaker race a week later in California to decide the winner. On the way to CA, Lightning rolls out of his trailer and gets stuck in a little town on Route 66 called Radiator Springs. There are no people in the movie. The characters are all cars. So. . . like there were some flies flying around - and they were little Volkswagen Beatles with wings - too cute. There were tractors in a field that were supposed to be likened to cows. Lightning and a buddy he meets named "Mater" go "Tractor Tipping." The scene was adorable. Lightning learns some valuable lessons in Radiator Springs.

I believe The Cable Guy does the voice of "Mater" the tow truck. I was a bit worried about this as The Cable Guy isn't exactly for kids. There was one comment that he makes that comes to mind where he says he'd give his "left two lug-nuts" to be able to do something. There's also a love interest that is really cute. Lightning does comment on a rear "pinstripe tattoo" she has on her back. Could have done without that. There are several other things like that - but minimal in my opinion. It's definitely worth seeing.

One last thing, during the trailers for the movie, they showed trailers that were for PG and above movies. Why? The kids were there to see a G rated movie - why put in their heads desires to see a PG movie? The trailer for Flicka was absolutely appalling to me as they twice said, "Da*n it!" That kind of language is not appropriate for G movie goers. As soon as I figure out who to call - I will!

My kids are 7.5 and 5. They both loved the movie.

Kids Commercials

When you set your kids down to watch a cartoon or two, do you sit and watch with them? Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, but Nickelodeon and Disney are all banking on you at least overhearing their commercials. We just expanded our cable from the very basic package to a mondo-promotional package - so we get these kids channels again. In the past I remember seeing SUV commercials and get out of debt commercials but nothing prepared me for the following. Yesterday morning I was shocked to hear a commercial that went like this:

"Do you know where your child is most likely to encounter a s*xual predator?"

It must have shown a PC monitor as it went on to talk about internet danger. Now, this was like 9am!!! I was completely shocked and appalled. This was on Nick Jr. Um, there are a lot of very smart kids out there - little 3 and 4 year olds who are now running to ask mom, "Mom, what's a s*xual pred-i-ter?"

If there is anyone out there that doesn't know about internet dangers by now - they probably don't have the internet to begin with. Our news channels have stories about MySpace and predator stings practicly every other night. Enough is enough. Leave my kids alone and save the adult commercials for adult shows (that many of you can FF through)! Let my kids be kids.

The Fourth Meal

I haven't seen a commercial for this, and some of you don't see commercials anyway because of your beloved DVR's - but going through the drive-thru at Taco Bell last week I noticed a BIG HUGE sign in the window - announcing the Fourth Meal!!! Taco Bell wants to be your evening meal stop - touting the fourth meal as the meal between dinner and breakfast. Now, I must admit that I often had this fourth meal while in college. This was usually because the third meal was severely lacking (sorry Dining Commons).

Just what we need - more late night calories! If you are watching your calories, check out this calorie counting site - it's way cool.

The Need - The Need for Speed

I'm back. I think about blogging almost everyday. With all the many things that fill my mind, blogging always takes a back seat. However, I just got cable internet. Now that I'm wired 24/7, I'll try to get this rolling again kay???

Sisters. . .

This morning I was thinking about my friend Trish Gaddess - and how we haven't been in touch in a long time. She and I went to Kindergarten together - which was 30 years ago. I love stories I hear about people that have had certain friends for years and years. Longevity of friendships - and marriages - seems to be a rarity these days.

Then I realized that I have a friend who's been my friend since I was 2 years old - my sister Julie. We are 21 months apart in age. She and I have shared everything - from the backyard swingset, to our matching clothes our mom made, from "dad-cut" bangs, to the errant hairstyles of the 80's (mine were definitely more errant).

We now share the experience of being a wife and mother of 2. That's the best - to look back at all we've lived through and where we are now. Thank God we still have each other. I'd be lost without her. We share a love for life, music, parenting, baking, certain reality TV shows that shall remain nameless - and most of all each other. If you see my sis, please tell her to move to Colorado - we've got living to do!!!

The Maiden Voyage

Well here goes. . . I've been blogging all my life - just not publicly. I should probably start with the name of the site. There's a verse in the Bible that says to "Flog a mocker." In college when someone was feeling mocked, they'd say, "flogamocker." As a joke - sometimes to get the mocker to quit.

So, "Blogamocker," just kind of rolled off the tip of my proverbial tongue when thinking of a blog name. I'm hoping to blog about many things, friendship, parenting, growing up, the daily news, and other obsessions of mine. We'll just have to see where this leads me.

Wont' you come along for the ride? Bookmark this page and check back - probably once a week.
